Features · Commission and targets

Commission, worked out by pay day.

Each person has their own target and commission: a percentage of everything they take, or a rate over their target with higher steps above it. FullColumn works it out every pay period, so pay day is a matter of reading it off. It’s on the one plan with everything else.

Commission the way you pay it

Set each person’s from a pay period on, whether you pay weekly, fortnightly or monthly, and start by copying someone else’s.

  • A percentage of everything they take, from the first dollar
  • Or a rate on what they take over their target, with higher steps above it, each rate paid only on its own step
  • Services or categories paid their own way: their own rate, a set amount each, or no commission
  • Commission on retail, with brands or products at their own rate

Product off first, for contractors

Product used can come off their takings before commission, mostly for contractors on a high percentage: the colour weighed for each service in the colour bar, at cost price, or a set amount for each colour service if you don’t weigh. Until you choose, nothing comes off.

Targets that follow the roster

A target is lowered in proportion for a pay period someone’s rostered less, for a day off, leave or a public holiday, and extra shifts never raise it. Each person sees how they’re tracking on My performance and their Today page, and you see the whole team on Team performance.

  • A service takings target, which commission over the target starts from
  • Retail takings, new clients, average spend and rebooking targets, which don’t change pay

A target from what they cost you

The target calculator takes their pay rates (several, blended by their hours), adds super (12%) and leave and other on-costs (21%), and suggests a target of 3 times their wage: change any of them to suit. Add the product they use and their share of running costs to see what the salon keeps at break-even, at the target and at their usual takings, and what each $100 over the target pays them and you.

Pay, a pay period at a time

The Pay report shows each person’s takings, what counted toward their target, commission step by step, tips and rostered hours, with how it was worked out, and a spreadsheet to download for payroll. A pay period never changes once it’s over: a sale voided later comes off the pay period it’s voided in.

Who sees pay

Seeing pay and setting targets and commission is the owner’s to start with: give it to a manager if you like. Nobody but the owner changes their own, and each person sees their own commission and tips on My performance.

Questions

Does FullColumn pay my team?

No. It works out what to pay: commission and tips for each pay period, with rostered hours, and a spreadsheet to download for your payroll. Pay your team through your payroll as you do now.

Can I set up tiered commission?

Yes. Pay a rate over their target with higher steps above it, like 10% over a $3,000 target and 15% over $4,500. Each rate is paid only on the takings in its own step, so taking more never pays less.

Can I pay commission on retail?

Yes. A percentage of the products each person sells, after discounts and without GST, with brands or products at their own rate if you like.

Can product come off before commission?

Yes, mostly for contractors on a high percentage. Take off the colour weighed for each service, at cost price, or a set amount for each colour service if you don’t weigh colour.

Does it work with fortnightly or monthly pay?

Yes. Pay weekly, fortnightly or monthly, with weekly and fortnightly pay periods starting on the day you choose. Targets and commission are worked out on each pay period’s totals.

What happens to targets when someone’s on leave?

Give them a day off on the roster, or block out whole days for their leave or a public holiday, and their target is lowered in proportion for that pay period: with a quarter of their usual hours off, it’s three-quarters of their target. Extra shifts never raise it.
